The Thirteenth Tripartite Presidents Meeting Among CRAES, NIES and NIER (TPM13)

The Tripartite Presidents Meeting (TPM) among the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES) of China, the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) of Japan, and the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) of Korea was jointly established by CRAES, NIES and NIER in 2004. TPM aims to strengthen the building and academic exchanges of the three Institutes in the field of environmental protection, address the major environment issues in each country and the region, and jointly promote the improvement of environment quality in the northeast Asian.
TPM13, organized by CRAES, was held in Kunming, China from Oct. 31st to Nov.4th, 2016. Delegations respectively headed by Dr. SUMI Akimasa, President of NIES and Dr. Park Jin-won, President of NIER, attended TPM13 at the invitation of Dr. SONG Yonghui, Vice-president of CRAES (On behalf of Dr. LI Haisheng, the new President of CRAES).
At TPM13，the Presidents exchanged information about the latest developments in environment policies and science & technology in the respective country since TPM12. As host, Dr. SONG Yonghui, Vice-president of CRAES, who warmly welcomed the friends from Japan and Korea, fully affirmed the exchanges conducted in the priority areas by the three Parties under TPM mechanism.
At TPM13，the Presidents listened to the reports presented by each institute including that on the scientific research progress made since TPM12, the exchange progress in the 9 PRAs identified under TPM mechanism, and special reports on environment health and risk assessment.
The Presidents noted that TPM mechanism is of great significance for proactively promoting the regional environmental protection technologies，they emphasized that the three institutes should strengthen the collaboration to achieve the win-win results both in scientific research strength and environment technology progress, based on the national conditions in each country through experience sharing and information exchanges. Meanwhile they also pointed out that the three institutes should develop the collaboration mode with TPM features，take advantages of the strength of each institute，conduct special scientific research under TPM mechanism targeting at the environmental scientific research subjects which are of common interests.
During TPM13, the TPM13 International Workshop and Academic Exchange Seminar for the 40th Anniversary of Yunnan Institute of Environmental Sciences: Water Pollution Control Technologies and Ecosystem Health were also held on November 2nd, 2016. The International Workshop (Seminar) was jointly organized by CRAES and Yunnan Institute of Environmental Sciences (YIES) in order to expand the influence of TPM mechanism and promote the dissemination and development of environment scientific research findings.
